We’re nearing the end of the G1 Climax 31, with this being the second to last night of A-Block action. We have a dramatic scene on hand with four men pushing for the lead – with KENTA, Zack Sabre Jr, Shingo Takagi looking to tie Kota Ibushi at 12 points. They all have winnable matches, but anything can happen in the G1 Climax.
Kota Ibushi Gets To Tangle With Satoshi Kojima
Kicking off the night was a match Fujita was not looking forward too – after Oiwa came back from the ring with Hiromu Takahashi with a chest resembling ground beef. Takahashi won with only chops and a Boston Crab, and Fujita fell to the same staples tonight, and can now compare wounds with Oiwa.
Kota Ibushi didn’t have a chance to get further in points tonight, instead having a special singles match with Satoshi Kojima. You have to imagine that Ibushi vs. Naito would have been the main event on this show, but Kojima gave a hell of a fight. He’d throw everything at Ibushi, but couldn’t beat a man in the prime of his career who is on a roll. Kojima would fall to the Kamigoye.
First bit of tournament action on the night would be old rivals Tomohiro Ishii & Yujiro Takahashi. Ishii tends to bring the best out of Takahashi, ever since their clashes in 2014 over the NEVER Openweight Championship. Takahashi came out fast and hard in this one, and threw his entire arsenal at Ishii – only to fall to a vertical drop brainbuster.
Great O-Khan Has Had An Excellent Tournament
We’d have a Bullet Club derby with KENTA & Tanga Loa. Loa is really proving himself as a singles wrestler, and he’d smother KENTA with his size and power. Jado would keep KENTA in the ring when needed, and all this would lead to KENTA getting a bit dirty with his tactics. He’d knock the referee down, his low blows, use the kendo stick of Jado – before a roll up with feet on the ropes. All was good afterwards, this is nothing new for Bullet Club.
Zack Sabre Jr had an incredibly dangerous opponent for this late in the tournament – Toru Yano. Yano is dangerous, even to ZSJ – and he’d try to end it quickly. ZSJ got goaded outside, taken backstage and blindfolded. He’d get back into the ring, fight off an armbar – end up outside handcuffed to Yano, and tap him out with an armbar. These guys are always great together.
Finally we’d get to the main event, which caps off the G1 Climax of Great O-Khan, as his next match is special singles. Fitting he’d cap things off fighting the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion – Shingo Takagi. Much like his matches with Kota Ibushi, Tomohiro Ishii & Zack Sabre Jr, he’d be able to push Takagi to his limits in a hard hitting match – but wasn’t there just yet.
Who’s Block Is It Anyways?
After tonight’s matches, the scoreboard in the A-Block looks like this.
KENTA, Zack Sabre Jr, Shingo Takagi, Kota Ibushi – 12 points
Tomohiro Ishii – 10 points
Toru Yano, Great O-Khan, – 8 points
Yujiro Takahashi, Tanga Loa – 4 points
Tetsuya Naito – 0 Points
Things are coming down to the wire at this point – and there’s only one match left for everyone but O-Khan, who has a special singles match ahead. Who will win the A-Block? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
