We’re very near the end of this year’s G1 Climax tournament, and neither Jeff Cobb or Kazuchika Okada have taken a loss. They have dominated the B-Block from the start, but tonight they face two men who claim leadership in Bullet Club. Upsets are common this late in a tournament, and tonight is the perfect night.
Chase Owens Defeats A Second Champion
Kicking off the show we would see Oiwa & Fujita in their second ever tag team match. Chests still red, they met the chops of Hiromu Takahashi again as he teamed with BUSHI. It was a simple but fun fight, with BUSHI nabbing the win with the boston crab.
Tournament action began with Chase Owens (decked out in Bobby Eaton tribute gear) taking on a wounded Taichi. Owens attacked the heavily bandaged ribs after a failed attempt at sumo wrestling, and was relentless. Taichi tried to fight through the pain, but would be left open for the Package Piledriver – ending this one with ease. He’s now pinned one half of the IWGP World Tag Team Champions, and the IWGP United States Champion.
SANADA was looking to simply end this tournament on a high note, as he’s out of the runnings for making the finals twice in a row. Hirooki Goto is always a good opponent for him, and they’d wrestle a silky smooth match of fast paced strikes, counters and submissions. After the Skull End and Muta Moonsault failed, some quick thinking and the European Clutch would get the win.
Tama Tonga Gets The Biggest Win Of His Career
YOSHI-HASHI doesn’t need to win the G1, because if he could beat Hiroshi Tanahashi? That would be just as big. He’d work like hell to make that a reality, and took Tanahashi deeper than any other attempt. However, even with as far as he’s come – he was no match for The Ace, and would fall to High Fly Flow. Maybe next time.
Jeff Cobb is on track to wrestle a perfect G1 Climax, meaning 9 wins in a row on the way to the finals. Tonight, he gets to also take EVIL out of the running and play the role of hero in the process. EVIL brought every single dirty trick that he and Dick Togo had to the table, before running out. He tried to use his hard hitting offense, but Cobb hit harder and won with the Tour of The Island. EVIL is vanquished.
Main event time, and on paper this one was simple. Kazuchika Okada beats Tama Tonga every single time in singles action. They’re masters of different games, and Okada is in peak singles form right now. However, Tama Tonga got some crafty blows early on, survived the best Okada had, pulled from the past of Bullet Club… and got it. After a double underhook piledriver akin to that of Kenny Omega – Okada was down for a three count, and Tama Tonga got the biggest win of his career.
Jeff Cobb & Kazuchika Are Still Standing
After tonight’s action, this is the B-Block scoreboard.
Jeff Cobb – 16 points
Kazuchika Okada – 14 Points
EVIL – 12 points
SANADA, Hiroshi Tanahashi – 8 points
Tama Tonga – 6 points
Chase Owens, Taichi, Hirooki Goto, YOSHI-HASHI – 4
