On tonight’s WWE Raw, we’re going to see round one of the red brand’s King off the Ring tournament, and it looks like the WWE is setting up a semi final showdown between Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods of the New Day.
Kingston is set to face Jinder Mahal and Woods will take on Ricochet.
Both should be really good matches, and we think Kingston will find a way to survive Mahal, Shanky, and Veer to move to the semi final.
Woods will have the better match as he and Ricochet will put their athleticism on full display as well as plenty of basic styles before Woods will win to face Kingston next week.
Mini rivalry
Both Woods and Kingston have said they would like to be heels again, but the WWE refuses. Vince McMahon likes them as faces so it looks like that’s how they’ll stay.
This doesn’t mean they can’t have a mini rivalry by facing each other to get to the finals of the King of the Ring tournament.
This will open up plenty of opportunities for them to build feuds with others as there will be plenty of opportunities for someone to try to turn them against each other before they move back to Smackdown.
Big E will even try to intervene as it could be his future opponent looking to get an edge over him for their feud after Extreme Rules.
Vince changed his mind
There’s also a possibility that McMahon changed his mind and he wants to turn one of them heel, and as history shows there’s no feud like that between close friends and brothers, and Kingston and Woods fit that category very well.
This could be tricky considering both were drafted to Smackdown as a tag team, but that could also be a cheap, easy way to have a heel turn be a surprise.
If there is a heel turn, it could be either of them as Kingston could develop a superior than thou attitude, or Woods could feel the odd man out as the only one not to have a major singles championship or award to his name.
Then there’s the possibility that we’re totally wrong and one or both will lose tonight and all of this is pure speculation.
We’re not sure which angle we’d like more, though both deserve a solid push in the singles division. It doesn’t mean they have to break up as they could become a title and trophy collecting team.
Plenty of possibilities to play with and we can’t wait to see if we’re right or wrong on this. What do you think, will Kingston and Woods face each other? Let us know in the comments below.
