Back in April of 2020, a fresh faced Alan Angels gave the best performance of his career as he took on Kenny Omega. Kicking out a V-Trigger set the wrestling world ablaze with conversation, and now we get to see what Angels can do over a year after this first encounter.
Ahead of the match, both men would comment on Twitter. Angels would say “Different man then a year and a half ago…” while Omega would say “No complaints from me. Take notes, Hangman.” Can Angels go even further, and pick up a win over the AEW World Champion this time around?
Alan Angels Would Come Ready For Kenny Omega, But Not Ready Enough
This one would kick off the show, with Angels not at all intimidated by Omega. He waited over 500 days to get another one on one shot with Kenny Omega, and started with a shotgun dropkick as the bell rang. Omega would fire back with one of his heavy handed chops, cutting down Angels before laying his boot across the throat and putting all his weight down.
Angels would weather the storm and nail a big leg lariat, before missing a discus lariat – but countering a snap German Suplex. He couldn’t block the Kotoro Crusher and a reverse Bulldog, getting a two count. Omega would hit the big knee drop brainbuster, but the V-Trigger was dodged and Angel got a two count off a roll up. He’d lure Omega to the outside and nail a massive suicide dive to send Omega into the barricade.
Omega fought back and shoved him into the apron and then the barricade, but Angels hit a unique kick off the apron, and followed up with a moonsault on the outside and a diving crossbody in the middle of the ring for two. The frog splash was met with a set of knees, and Omega got a two count off a massive spinebuster.
A powerbomb would be blocked by Angel, before Omega nailed some palm strikes. Angels kept fighting, getting away from another SnapDragon, and having an answer for One Winged Angel with a roll up. The V-Trigger landed, and Angels kicked out just like last time. A second V-Trigger and a third would land, with Omega sending a message before pinning his opponent.
A solid underdog performance from Angels against the dominant Omega told a great story, with Angels giving Omega issues once again. Not a big match version of Omega tonight, but he’s still always one of the best in the world whenever he laces those boots up. Match Rating: 3/5 (***)
After the match, he’d ask for a steel chair. The fans would chant for Hangman Page, and his music alone would stop Omega from going for One Winged Angel. Page hit the ring, Angels took the chair away, and Buckshot Lariat almost hit it’s mark. Can Page nail the Buckshot at Full Gear? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
