Bryan Danielson started off his AEW run by going after the AEW World Champion – Kenny Omega. Then he just revealed he would just want a match with Omega, no title needed. Now, after winning every match put infront of him, he will stop at nothing to get the AEW World Championship. He made his way through a tournament, and now just one thing stands between Danielson and a title shot. Unfortunately, it’s Miro. A man Danielson has never beaten, and only one man in AEW has done so. It’s a hard challenge, but if anyone is up to it, it’s Danielson.
Bryan Danielson Breaks Miro Down
A handshake was offered from Danielson to Miro, before they’d lock up. Miro had a power edge, but all know this. It’s power vs. technique, and that’s never a clear situation for a winner. Danielson would throw some kicks to the quad, before being thrown aside with ease. Pace was slow, as neither man wanted to make the first mistake. Miro was caught in a cravat and nailed with knee strikes and chops before rocking Danielson to the outside.
Danielson would try for the swinging DDT to attack the neck, but Miro knows to protect his neck. However, Miro would lose the battle of speed and was sent outside. Danielson tried for the dive but met an anti-air forearm before a suplex on the outside. Miro allowed Danielson to get back into the ring, before getting him into a sleeper hold.
Danielson was losing the fight, as Miro broke him down and threw him into the corner hard. Miro would take some time to taunt, before taking some running strikes and coming back with a Samoan Drop. Would it be a Bulgarian Drop from Miro? Who knows. Danielson would then be thrown into the ring post, and Miro would look under the ring for something before slowly making his way to Danielson.
Miro Is Not Human
Perhaps he gave far too much time, as Danielson shoved Miro into the ring post and nailed the diving knee off the apron. Back in the ring, Miro was battered with mid-kicks, and while he’d counter, it would just lead to a kneebar from Danielson. There is no ropes nearby, and no way out. Miro was close to tapping before he just gutted his way up into a deadlift German Suplex.
A second would follow, and Miro had a chance to beat some feeling into the leg. The backdrop was countered as Danielson landed on his feet and nailed the Buzzsaw Kick. Miro was able to catch the flying knee into a powerbomb – only getting a two count. He’d ask his god what he needs to do to win before psyching himself up. It was Game Over time, but Danielson would fight off the submission. It was applied and this is a kill shot. Danielson was fading, but he made the ropes at the last second.
A second attempt saw Danielson roll through and apply the LeBell Lock. Miro couldn’t see the ropes, but powered his way free. Miro was then locked in a Triangle Sleeper with some elbow strikes, the way he beat Kingston. Danielson would have his eyes gouged, breaking the hold.
Neither man would back down at this point, but Miro was absorbing the strikes of Danielson with ease. He’d take seven to drop Danielson with one, making it clear they were walking the Kings Road here. Danielson was picked up and placed on the top rope, and he’d take Miro down with a DDT and apply a choke to take Miro out for good.
Since coming to AEW, Bryan Danielson has not missed. Add in Miro being on the best run of his career – and you have a great match before the bell even rang. They had styles that meshed well, with Danielson pulling out some underdog tricks that he honed in WWE to get the biggest win of his AEW career. Match Rating: 4/5 (****)
