At NJPW Battle In The Valley, most matches went off without a hitch. Buddy Matthews & Kazuchika Okada put on a classic. Tomohiro Ishii reclaimed the NEVER Openweight Championship from Jay White. Ren Narita took Will Ospreay to the limit. However, VLNCE UNLTD vs. Stray Dog Army can’t be counted among these matches, as Brody King & Chris Dickinson lost after Dickinson suffered an injury.
Chris Dickinson Had His Hip Knocked Out Of Place
During the last minute of this match, Chris Dickinson would climb to the top rope for a splash onto a prone Bateman. It landed, but Dickinson clearly got the worst of it, as he just laid in pain. Thinking fast, Bateman would get a pinfall to end the match and get EMTs to the ring to check on Dickinson. He’d be taken to the back on a stretcher, where Brody King would follow.
We’d get an injury update because of this, and it’s one that only can exist with someone like Dickinson, with Brody King providing it via Twitter.
“I need everyone to know that when Chris Dickinson was in the back with his hip out of place in enormous amounts of pain, he was staring the EMTs in the eyes yelling the lyrics of Pride by Madball at them. The man’s on another level of tough.”
Two to Three Months Average Recovery Time – As Long as Six Months Possible
Dickinson is often considered one of the best names in independent wrestling today. He got some time to shine in Ring of Honor recently, which helped him land in New Japan Pro Wrestling as well. His homebase is normally with GCW, where he offers some strong style grappling to add variety to the promotion.
Hopefully we can see him back in the ring soon, but this is a serious injury for sure. It’s a common injury in professional football, and is often described as “the most pain they ever felt in their life”. For Dickinson to take that and still be singing punk rock backstage sums up just who he is.
This injury will likely have Dickinson out of the ring for the rest of 2021, with average healing time being around 2-3 months. Could be more, or even less with someone as determined as Dickinson.
