Actress Joan Collins has spoken on how she stays away from social media in order to avoid getting herself involved in becoming a victim of cancel culture.
Actress Joan Collins Speaks Out Against Cancel Culture-‘People Can’t Say What They Think’
Joan, for her part, is 88-years-old. Therefore, she is not going to be getting any younger. And given that she has left behind such a big legacy in the acting industry, she does not want it tarnished because people might jump on something that she has said.
During an interview with ‘The Sunday Times’, she said: “People can’t say what they think because they’ll get cancelled. Dredging up tweets from 15 years ago about what somebody might have said when they were 14, I think that’s sick.
“I don’t want to engage in any way, shape or form with these morons.” That does not mean, however, that Joan is not capable of expressing her views. Far from it. In fact, she simply chooses to be more selective on what she wants to comment on.
And one topic that she is certainly passionate about is the role of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The latter duo have been making headlines ever since they left the Royal family in 2020 to relocate overseas.
Following their controversial interview on Oprah Winfrey, the couple continued to distance themselves from the Royal family. But with there being so much attention cast upon them, Joan feels enough is enough.
She added: “I think they’ve had enough oxygen in the press.” Given that freedom of speech is so important in a democratic society, Joan felt that people were taking this for granted.
Had it not been, according to Joan, for former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, the world would have been a worse place.
That is why she felt that criticism towards the former Prime Minister, including the vandalism of a statue of him, was out of order. She continued: “I was too young at the time to realize, but they were on our doorstep.
“If it hadn’t been for Churchill, we would all be walking around with swastikas.” But with the way that things stand, cancel culture is here to stay.
