Kanye West Responds To Criticism He Received For Inviting Marilyn Manson To His Sunday Church Service-‘They Can’t Cancel Us All’
Marilyn, for his part, has been accused of sexual assault from several women of late. And with an investigation still ongoing, many people felt that his actions of welcoming Marilyn were deemed to be overlooking his potential guilt.
And yet, this recent rise of cancel culture, which has emerged in response to movements such as the #MeTooMovement, has gotten Kanye talking.
While it is always good to allow people to be able to come forward and speak out against powerful figures, especially when they have done things wrong, it is also important to bear in mind that it can have a counterproductive effect, particularly if those accusations are not true.
This is a balance that is very hard to achieve and is ultimately something that has gotten Kanye worked up. In an interview on ‘The Drink Champs’ podcast, Kanye said: “All the #MeToo – like, when I sit next to DaBaby and Marilyn Manson, right after both of them got cancelled, for five songs, you know, it’s like they can’t cancel a song.
“They’ll hit you with the accusations or somebody that you was with ten years ago.” The primary reason why this is such a hot topic for Kanye is that he feels political correctness has gotten in the way of common sense.
He has seen the gradual evolution from being able to act in a certain way to now potentially everything being a crime within the public sphere. Kanye sees this as a way of keeping artists within their place, so that they are not able to say what they really think.
In this way, everyone is at the behest of money as the threat of being cancelled can keep people in check. He added: “There’s women who’ve been through very serious things, pulled in alleys against their will – that’s different than a hug.
“But it’s classified as the same thing… It’s power and politics. This is 1984 mind control that we in. They can’t cancel us all.”
