From the moment that All Elite Wrestling was created, it was obvious that Kenny Omega was going to be one of their biggest possible stars. Making his name in New Japan Pro Wrestling, Omega is still regarded as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time – and AEW has had a chance to showcase him weekly. When it comes to names that Tony Khan hopes to keep long term, Omega is very much at the top of the list – which is important as Omega’s AEW contract expires later this year.
Tony Khan Hopes Kenny Omega Is In AEW For The Longterm
During the post show media scrum after AEW Revolution, Tony Khan would be asked about the rumours that Omega could be WWE bound later this year. In response, Khan would have the following to say.
“I think Kenny Omega’s one of the best wrestlers in AEW history. He’s one of the most decorated wrestlers. To have somebody who’s been World Trios Champion and had a great match defending that title tonight, World Tag Team Champion and the World Champion, he’s done everything you can do as a world champion in this company, and also the IWGP US Champion. This year alone, he’s had some of the best matches in the world. I thought it was an excellent match at the pay-per-view tonight. He started the year with a great match in Tokyo versus Will Ospreay at Wrestle Kingdom. Kenny Omega can do anything he sets his mind to. He’s one of the best stars in the world, and I hope he’s here for a very long time.”
During AEW Revolution, Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks defended the AEW World Trios Championships against The House of Black, with new champions named. Omega remains the IWGP United States Champion – having won that belt at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17, in what many consider the best match of 2023. Omega’s AEW contract will expire in November of this year, due to time being added with his time off to recover from injuries throughout 2022.
