Prince Edward, who happens to be the son of Queen Elizabeth II, has spoken about how his mother has been impacted by the pandemic.
Prince Edward Reveals How The Pandemic ‘Has Been A time Of Anxiety’ For Queen Elizabeth II
It is no secret that the Queen’s health is not in the best shape. After all, she was forced to miss Remembrance Day only last week. And given that the pandemic has not made things any easier, Edward spoke on how that has caused the Queen some ‘anxiety.’
In a statement given to the Church of England, Edward said: “[The] last few years have been particularly hard, with unprecedented restrictions in accessing the comfort and reassurance of public worship.
“For many, it has been a time of anxiety, of grief, and of weariness.” Edward’s comments show that the Queen cannot continue to conduct her duties at the same pace in light of her health.
After all, this was the first time in 51 years that the Queen had failed to attend an event at the Church of England. Clearly, then, the decision was not taken lightly. Despite her health concerns, the Queen tried everything in her power to be present.
Edward stated: “[My mother sent her] sincere and deep apologies that she cannot be here today. I think you probably understand why, and she regrets that deeply.” Nevertheless, that does not mean that the Queen cannot continue to make some contributions behind the scenes.
Given that the pandemic has made virtual communication more popular than ever, there is a feeling that the Queen will utilise these methods if her health continues to deteriorate. And the church is ready and willing to embrace that too.
Edward continued: “The Church has adapted and continued its ministry, often in new ways, such as digital forms of worship.” The Queen should be commended for her bravery in continuing to make every effort to rule.
While that does prove she has a desire to continue, there is also a fine line in deciding whether having her continue in her role is best for the nation at this moment. With that in mind, the future is very critical for the Royal family.
