Prince Harry has come out and labelled the term ‘Megxit’ as a form of misogyny.
Prince Harry Brands Megxit A ‘Misogynistic Term’-‘It Was Created By A Troll’
Harry, for his part, made these comments at a recent event called the ‘Internet Lie Machine,’ held by Wire magazine. The term Megxit emerged following Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to leave the Royal family.
But ever since that moment, the duo have been viewed negatively in the UK. This has been, in part, due to their controversial interview with Oprah Winfrey on CBS.
And yet, Harry took things a step further. He viewed this analogy as a form of hate. In a statement, he said: “Maybe people know this, and maybe they don’t, but the term Megxit was or is a misogynistic term.
“It was created by a troll, amplified by royal correspondents, and it grew and grew and grew into mainstream media. But it began with a troll.”
While that was a significant source of concern, Harry also wanted to draw attention to another issue: the spread of misinformation. He went on to stress how this has become a major crisis, given that it is influencing the mindset of people.
Although he did not identify any particular issues, his previous comments on urging people to take the Covid-19 vaccine have hinted at this. He added: “[Misinformation is a] global humanitarian crisis.”
Much in the same way, Harry called out Twitter boss Jack Dorsey. He accused Jack of allowing Twitter to organise the Capitol riots in the United States, which sent shockwaves across the globe.
By not having tougher restrictions in place, Harry felt that such groups were allowed to organise. Harry then claimed that he contacted Jack about this a day before the riots but did not get a response.
He continued: “His platform was allowing a coup to be staged. That email was sent the day before, and then it happened, and I haven’t heard from him since.”
Once again, Harry is going to ruffle a few feathers with the comments that he has made. But if he is willing to speak out against certain individuals, then he should be able to take any criticism coming his way.
