Sami Zayn has been on a tear for several months about a WWE wide conspiracy against him, and last week we saw two moments that actually give him reason to double down on his claim.
First was Vince McMahon giving Austin Theory a title shot against Big E instead of Zayn because Theory reminds him of himself.
Then on Smackdown after he won the Black Friday Invitational Battle Royal his moment was stamped out when Kayla Braxton announced Brock Lesnar’s suspension was officially lifted.
The fact she was at ringside is another tell tale sign as the cameras never show her there, so it looks like there are three reasons.
Stating his case
Following Smackdown, Zayn gave an interview where he was incensed at having his moment stepped on, and it was a thing of beauty.
“Sami Zayn gets one of the biggest wins of his entire career, but instead of going off on a career highlight for a generational talent like Sami Zayn, who has been oppressed, who has been marginalized, who has been cast aside for months, years, conveniently, we find airtime to make the blockbuster announcement for Brock Lesnar’s return.”
He didn’t stop there.
“As if Brock Lesnar hasn’t had enough television time. As if Brock Lesnar hasn’t had enough hype. He needs to, they need to step on my moment?”
It’s understandable he’d feel this way and it adds a legitimacy to his character as he’s going to continue his championship push.
We’re sure Zayn will lose his chance or get waylaid in some way as it’s been standard for the last year or so with him.
A great heel
This is an unpopular opinion, but Sami Zayn is part of the triad of top heels in the WWE. He’s not on Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins’ level, but he’s comparable for his intangibles and makes it fun to watch him.
A perfect example is how he let his hair and beard grow out so he looks more wild and insane when he’s ranting. His mic skills are second to none, and often reminds us of Bobby Heenan when he gets on a role.
No one will ever top The Brain, but Zayn can hold his own and it would’ve been awesome seeing him with some of the Golden Era talent that rocked those types of moments.
Since we’re sure he’s going to lose his championship opportunity, we’re expecting a face turn as he’ll face off against the corporation and the system.
We’re not sold on the storyline being solid, but we have complete faith in Zayn making it entertaining.
