WWE Legend Scotty Too Hotty, real name Scott Taylor, requested his release as a coach on the NXT brand, citing his desire not to just be there to collect a paycheck.
Scotty’s best known for being part of Too Cool with Grandmaster Sexay (Brian Christopher) and Rikishi for a run in WWE from 1998 to 2001 and 2014-2018.
Over the years, Scotty’s career has led him from the WWE to independent promotions, and he returned to the WWE in 2016 as a trainer for the middle class (second of four levels) at the WWE Performance Center.
Calling it quits
Scotty took to social media to announce to the fans that he requested his release from the WWE.
“Today, I have asked for my release from World Wrestling Entertainment. 30 years ago I stepped into a WWE ring for the very first time. I have lived my dream 100 times over. Some of my most special memories will always be from the last five years working with NXT.
The black and gold brand was something special and I am proud to have been a small part of that. I always promised myself that I would never be part of something solely for the paycheck and that was where I was at. I told myself that I would walk away if I ever got to that point, so that is what I have chosen to do.
“Coaching and producing the stars of NXT will always be a highlight of my life. I love you all more than you will ever know.”
More than a paycheck
While Scotty’s reasoning sounds like many we’ve heard from other talent that have requested their release, and it’s curious what suddenly changed.
NXT 2.0 is more mainstream than the previous Black and Gold brand and is now a legitimate developmental brand with a 6 month window to develop wrestlers instead of three years.
While it’s possible the shift in focus has helped his decision, it’s most likely he’s just looking for a new challenge and wants to leave on good terms.
Whether he goes elsewhere as a trainer, coach, or producer or returns to the ring in some fashion, we wish him the best.
He was always lost of fun to watch and his fingerprints are all over the NXT roster.
