Later tonight on NXT 2.0, we will see Io Shirai, Kayden Carter & Kacy Catanzaro take on the Toxic Attraction faction. This became a heated issue for Shirai, when her partner Zoey Stark was attacked by Jacy Jayne & Gigi Dolin. The attack was meant to write Stark off TV, as she suffered a serious injury which will keep her away from the ring for some time. Now, from Stark herself – we know the extent of the injury.
Zoey Stark Has A Torn ACL
Taking to Twitter ahead of tonight’s big women’s trio’s match – Stark would explain what will keep her from the ring for a while.
“Sadly, I tore my ACL/Meniscus due to Toxic’s attack. Here’s the bad news for the “champs”. Surgery went great and I’m already rehabbing. I’ll be back BETTER & STRONGER with three targets in mind!”
She’d close the tweet with a call for Shirai, Carter & Catanzaro to kick their asses – and that would be that. We don’t know the exact point where she suffered the injury, but her final match before injury was the ladder match at Halloween Havoc, which provides many chances for injury. There was a missed Phoenix Splash, which has had some recent injury causing history.
Still Looking Like A Future Champion
This injury comes at a poor time, as it prevents a pay off from the partnership of Shirai & Stark – which mostly consisted of Shirai constantly reminding Stark how much she dislikes her. It seemed the payoff would eventually be seen with Stark defeating Shirai, and then moving onto the hunt for the NXT Championship. Stark has been a clearly defined star, and has the youth and ability that WWE wants with their female talent. That should hopefully keep her safe from a release right after she gets healthy.
This could even lead to Mandy Rose holding onto the championship while Stark heals. There’s potential for a heated angle there, and one that could see Stark become a top star. The normal expected recovery time for an ACL tear is around nine months, but with the surgery being a great success – it could be much shorter in this case.
