There’s no denying the WWE’s desire to honor and respect the soldiers with its Tribute to the Troops, and it’s always a great time to see what the interactions but this years had a bit of a twist.
While the numbers aren’t official, it looks like, according to wrestlinginc.com, the WWE Tribute to the Troops special this Sunday recorded 2.030 million viewers on Fox.
It’s a respectable number in many ways, but it also showed a glaring problem in the WWE as the hour long special had roughly 500k more viewers than WWE Raw despite being across from the NFL.
Raw had a reported 1.585 million viewers as the flagship show continues to flounder while looking for a miracle to steady its ratings and viewers.
Not a surprise
It’s fair to note that special tend to do better than average shows in general, and the WWE aired a pretty solid card for their Tribute to the Troops special.
The matches were pretaped on October 15 at Ontario, California and Lilian Garcia performed the national anthem.
The matches shown were Bianca Belair Defeating Liv Morgan, Big E winning against Dolph Ziggler, and Roman Reigns prevailing against Shinsuke Nakamura.
It’s great to see fan tune in for the special and to show their support, and we’re curious if the WWE can find a way to carry this over to their regular shows.
Survivor Series and possible changes
With Survivor Series this weekend, we expect Smackdown to remain the solid show it’s been and its numbers will match the Tribute to the Troops special and the PPV may do well.
Though trusting any numbers the WWE gives should be taken with a pound of salt. Still, we hope both are successful and Raw can finally get out of its way.
If anything, this special showed that the WWE can do well in spurts, and it could be an indicator that it’s time for Raw to scale back to two hours instead of three.
It could also help if the WWE had regular weekend shows like they used to. Not everyone will bother with their streaming service or social media, so having that extra televised show would be a great way to get fans’ interest renewed.
Of course, we could just be blowing it all out of proportion, but there’s no denying the WWE is struggling with their televised product and it’d be good if they did something to help streamline things for the viewers.
What do you think? Is the Tribute to the Troops special an indicator that shorter programming is needed for the WWE to rebound? Let us know in the comments below.
