Demi Lovato, who identifies as non-binary took to Instagram stories to announce that they would no longer go the California sober way. “I no longer support my ‘California sober’ ways,” they posted, “sober sober’ is the only way to be.”
Demi Lovato Says She Is “California Sober”
In March, Demi revealed that they were ‘California sober’ on CBS Sunday Morning. They explained to Tracy Smith, the interviewer that after the overdose in July 2018 that was almost fatal, they would rather remain California sober. You might be wondering what it means to be California sober, right?
In California, marijuana use is legal, so when a person says he is ‘California sober’ he means that he uses marijuana, but not any other type of drugs or alcohol– it is basically replacing one addictive substance with another.
In Demi Lovato’s case, they would “occasionally smoke weed and drink in moderation.” They explained why she decided that she would not be ‘fully sober.’ “The complete abstinence method is not a one size-fit-all solution for everybody. I don’t think the journey of moderation is a one-size-fit-all solution for everybody too.” They stated.
Demi Lovato Wishes She Could Get Some “Relief”
The Disney star further explained that they have “learned that shutting the doors on things makes them want to open the door even more.” “I’m done with the stuff I know is going to kill me, right? But I wish I could get some relief maybe though, like, weed or something, and telling myself that I can never have a drink or smoke marijuana, like, I feel like that’s setting myself up for failure because I am such a black and white thinker.” They explained in March.
Concerning Thursday’s post about being ‘sober sober’, it was made the next day after the celebration of their friend who died of a drug overdose in 2019, They wrote “we miss and love you. I mean how gorgeous is@sistruss.” Nothing more has been said about this decision other than the post on their story.
