When WCW Legend Bill Goldberg made his return to WWE back in 2016, no one knew what to expect from him. He’d go on to create some big moments, such as squashing Brock Lesnar, claiming two WWE Universal Championship reigns, nearly killing The Undertaker in Saudi Arabia, and having one of his best matches ever with Bobby Lashley. It has been a fun ride, but all good things must come to an end – and Goldberg is nearing the end of his current WWE deal.
Just One More Match In The WWE Contract Of Goldberg
While speaking on the Pat McAfee show, Goldberg would speak about his contract status – saying the following.
“I still feel as though I can wrestle. I still feel as though I can entertain. I have one more after this match, I have one more match on my contract and that’s it. We’ll see what happens. You never know.”
However, much like Kenny Omega – Goldberg is someone who has been working past injuries in all of his recent matches.
“This last time with Lashley was the longest time they gave me to prep and you see the results. I felt pretty good. I won’t tell everybody on national radio or television that my shoulder has been destroyed for the last three years, five years, eight years and I need surgery, but I’ll get it when I’m done. I’ll get it when I’m finished. If Vince McMahon calls me tomorrow morning and says, ‘Goldberg, we need you in a month.’ What am I going to do if I get surgery? I’ll get it done when it’s time.”
So, Who’s Next?
So with the shoulder of Goldberg at risk, and just one more match left to go – the question is Who’s Next? One option is the long awaited match between Roman Reigns & Goldberg. WWE has tried to get this one off the ground a few times, always to limited success. It would be an action movie spectacle of a match, much like his clashes with Brock Lesnar.
Another option comes with his son, Gage. Gage got involved during the feud with Bobby Lashley, and could be looking to follow in the footsteps of his father. Putting Goldberg & Gage in against another father and son duo with The Mysterios would be a very interesting match, and a perfect way for Goldberg to pass the torch to his son. Despite working in the same companies for years, Goldberg has only met Rey Mysterio once, and that was in a Battle Royale back in WCW.
