This week’s episode of NXT ended in dramatic fashion. Johnny Gargano would hit the ring to his old theme song, and say goodbye to the brand he’s spent half a decade in. WWE NXT fans watched as he thanked everyone from Triple H to the production crew, before he took a moment to say that his next main goal is the birth of his first child in February. He was dropped by Grayson Waller, but after the show went off the air – the farewell of Gargano continued.

A Moment After Cameras Stopped Rolling With Tommaso Ciampa & Kyle O’Reilly

While some fans were quick to assume that the attack of Waller was to set up a feud, it could be as simple as Gargano wanting to go out on his back. Everything he’s done on the brand was to build it to higher heights. He’s been very giving to the brand, why stop on the way out? Waller has been building steam, and taking out Johnny Gargano was another big step in the career of the Aussie standout.

After this attack, Gargano would be joined by Tommaso Ciampa & Kyle O’Reilly. O’Reilly exchanged some hugs before leaving #DIY to have a moment in the ring. It’s expected that O’Reilly is on his way to AEW, as his contract extension ends on the 10th. Gargano signed the same extension deal, but his future is left more in the air – with the following quote giving our biggest hint.

“I don’t know what my immediate future holds. That is up in the air still. I may do some things here and there.”

One way or another, it seems that Johnny Gargano is done with NXT. Pictures of him sitting in the ring with Ciampa, with eyes full of tears showed that enough. This was not a moment for TV, something more genuine. Ciampa is not leaving NXT, having made it clear that when his in-ring days are up, he’s moving into a coaching role in the Performance Center – as his neck can’t handle the travel of the WWE main roster.

    Two Big Options In Place

There are two big options in the air for Johnny Gargano. The first is a contract offer from WWE, a multi-year deal which as of this article, has not been signed or declined by Gargano. This will keep him in WWE, and likely have him on Smackdown or RAW when he’s ready to return to the ring. Vince McMahon was impressed by Gargano’s work with The Way, having made stars of Austin Theory & Indi Hartwell during that faction’s run.

The other option is AEW. They have a high focus on in-ring wrestling, where Gargano shines as a performer. Some of his best matches came against Adam Cole & Andrade, who both have joined the roster. Given the legendary status of his wife, Candice LeRae – they would also take her with open arms when her contract is up. LeRae has taken the fight to the likes of Trent & The Young Bucks in PWG, and has many friends in AEW much like Gargano.

Where do you see the future of Johnny Gargano leading? Will he be announced for a show like Battle of Los Angleas for PWG in the meantime? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
