It’s time for a battle of eras in WWE NXT, and what better venue than WarGames. One one team we have the old guard of NXT from the Black & Gold era. Johnny Gargano, Tommaso Ciampa, LA Knight & Pete Dunne. The other side is the new school. Carmelo Hayes, Grayson Waller, Tony D’Angelo, and Bron Breakker. Team 2.0 won the advantage, but will they make it to the Match Beyond?
Carmelo Hayes would opt to start for Team 2.0, showing his confidence. Gargano would be the one to start for Team Blck & Gold, wanting to get the most of his debut experience in WarGames. Rebel Heart would make it’s return, and NXT’s main character perhaps enters his final match for the brand. He’s done it all in this brand, but never WarGames. A fitting conclusion, and even his gear reflected this – just a mash-up of previous Takeover ring gear.
Johnny Gargano Is Here For One Final Beating
Johnny WarGames would lock up with Hayes, taking him down into an armbar. Hayes would get control briefly as he was sent off the ropes. They’d made speed in the exchange, before Gargano would take Hayes down with the armdrag and kick to the head. Hayes blocked One Final Beat in the middle of the rings, but fell to a slingshot spear.
Gargano would take the springboard clothesline, before Hayes went looking for the diving leg drop. Hayes would be met on the top rope and taken down with the sunset bomb. Gargano had Hayes down as the clock hit, and Grayson Waller entered the match. Waller called Gargano to hit his ring, and blocked a DDT into a big suplex.
Gargano ate a major backbreaker, but was able to nail a hurricanrana and a head kick, but Hayes was back up and a two on one attack would follow. However, Johnny Takeover was ready for these odds, setting up a DDT from Hayes to Waller, and tumbling it down with a neckbreaker. Waller would nearly lose an eye as Trick Williams threw a chair over the cage, but Hayes used the chair to bust Gargano open.
Dunne would waste no time hitting the ring, and tossed Hayes right onto Waller with the X-Plex. Gargano had a chance to recover, and Waller had his fingers bent in the cage. Dunne applied a crossface, and Gargano the Garga-NO Escape, and they threw kicks across at opponents as well. Hayes would try to get fancy with a dive, taking the anti-air forearm, before Waller flowed with two stunners.
Tony D’Angelo Has A Plan
Tony D’Angelo hit the ring, and would fill it with tables and kendo sticks with the help of Trick. He’d keep digging, and Dexter Lumis was under to run him off. D’Angelo would chain the cage door shut, hoping to keep Knight & Ciampa out. Gargano was already bloody, and now being battered with weapons. Three on two advantage could last, if Knight couldn’t find the way into the ring.
He’d look for a ladder under the ring, before just scaling it like a mad lad before hitting the ring. Knight would take on everyone from 2.0 before mixing up with rival Waller, dropping him before power slamming D’Angelo onto him. Gargano tossed Knight a trash can, which was put over the head of Waller and smacked with a kendo stick before a double dropkick from Dunne & Gargano. Waller again had his fingers tortured, now with the trash can in the mix.
Bron Breakker would come to the ring, and have to break his way into the ring. The bolt cutters weren’t doing it, but he’d find a way. Breakker hit the ring and started with some big strikes and suplexes. It’s been too long since a Steiner entered WarGames. Gargano was thrown from ring to ring, and Ciampa would be quickly to the save.
Now, this one begins – and can now be won or lost. Psycho Killer would rush every, smashing them into the steel and nailing knee strikes. Hayes would attack from behind, but took a crutch to the back. They know a thing or two about crutches, and the crowd started a big #DIY chant.
The Match Beyond
DIY was thriving tonight, until they met Bron Breakker and Ciampa had Gargano thrown right onto him. Team 2.0 would take control, with everyone spilling off to their rivals before this match. Black & Gold were beaten and bruised, but had smiles on their faces – this is how they are used to fighting.
A massive brawl broke out, and Black & Gold would stand fall before hitting more strikes on the rookies. Gargano hit a lawn dart on Hayes right into a trash can, while Ciampa set up a super Air Raid crash up on Waller. D’Angelo made the save, and Waller would want the elbow drop, but Knight lept to the top rope and took Waller through it with a belly to belly suplex!
Gargano & Dunne set up the Tower of Doom on Hayes, and Knight would almost get the win with the BFT, but the pin was broken up. Breakker was next on the list of Knight, who doesn’t forget the big loss that he has to Breakker. Ciampa would be there to set up the Air Raid crash on Breakker, slamming him right onto a trash can, but Breakker kicked out.
The End Of Black & Gold
Waller would go to the top of the cage, and Knight was put onto a table for the big elbow drop. D’Angelo tried to take the pin, but Dunne pulled him off. A crowbar was taken into the fight, but Dunne beat him down with a kendo stick with Hayes coming soon after. Dunne would take the crowbar shot, and had his mouth guard pulled out before a crowbar assisted neck breaker from the top rope.
Breakker would meet D.I.Y and take One Final Beat. He’d find himself in the middle, and fans got something that has taken out many opponents – a superkick and knee sandwich. Hayes would pull the referee off and hit a low blow on Gargano, and as Ciampa set up Fairytale Ending – he’d be speared through a table. One big powerslam, and he’s pinned the champion to win the match.
