Right now, WWE has a focus on who they are recruiting to join their roster. They want to bring in top athletes, and train them in the ways of professional wrestling. It has led to names like Bobby & Gable Steveson being signed for the men’s division of WWE, and former WNBA star Anriel Howard – now known as Lash Legend. She built up some hype for her debut with some segments on NXT 2.0, but her showings on 205 Live are showing to be a mess.
Lash Legend’s Match With Sarray Described As The ‘Worst Televsion Match For WWE This Year’
While her debut match against Amari Miller was seemingly fine, with Legend showing off some good athletic ability? Her second match against Sarray was not as lucky. A report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter would state the following.
“From internal sources, we were told it was one of the most edited matches before it aired, and it was described that they cut it down to 3:00 of “highlights” and it in that form was still the worst television match for WWE this year. Legend would be the most accomplished woman athlete on the roster by a wide margin although that doesn’t mean her athleticism as a WNBA player (although short-lived) and college basketball star transfers to pro wrestling like the athleticism of a Belair or a Flair.”
This comes with Legend being put in with a ten year veteran in Sarray, who has faced all types of wrestlers. Even that experience couldn’t save the match, and WWE editing was only able to do so much.
Lots Left To Learn In The WWE Performance Center
Right now, Legend is still very fresh in her training – and NXT 2.0 is back to a more developmental model than NXT Black & Gold was. It is a shame that such a weak match early in her career could haunt her moving forward, but there is a lot more that she has to learn from the coaches in the WWE Performance Center. With her career so young, it’s not time to write her off as Eva Marie 2.0 just yet.
The rushed debut might end up hurting her career all the same, and it’d be the fault of WWE for sending her out before she was ready. They have the best facility and coaches around, giving no excuses for them sending a talent to a match meant for outside viewing before said talent was properly prepared.
