Meghan Markle has managed to obtain a significant victory in court over the ‘Mail on Sunday’ after they had decided to publish parts of a letter she had written to her father, Thomas Markle.
Meghan Markle Wins In Court Against The ‘Mail On Sunday’ Who Had Unlawfully Published The Contents Of Her Letter Towards Thomas Markle
The contents of the letter were in breach of her privacy and copyright laws as they were published without her consent.
And given that Meghan has a strained relationship with her father, the last thing that she wanted to see was her private thoughts being aired to the public.
As a result of the proceedings, the case will not be going to trial as Meghan will be compensated in damages. This will also be accompanied by a formal apology being printed on the newspaper’s front page.
Following the verdict, Meghan wanted to make sure that this would never happen again to anyone. In an official statement, Meghan said: “This is a victory not just for me, but for anyone who has ever felt scared to stand up for what’s right.
“What matters most is that we are now collectively brave enough to reshape a tabloid industry.” This victory also gives credence to Prince Harry’s prior annoyance with the role of the media.
He had spoken on the role of media propaganda before, where he highlighted the need to tackle misinformation. And Meghan’s case has shown that high profile people can be exploited for the sake of profit.
But with the duo being in the public eye for so long, there are always going to be those looking to take advantage. But that has only gone on to strengthen Meghan’s resolve.
She added: “The longer they dragged it out, the more they could twist facts…In the nearly three years since this began, I have been patient in the face of deception, intimidation, and calculated attacks.”
Meghan’s victory will make others think twice about how they act. But at the same time, it is also a warning to Meghan and Harry that others will be able to take action against them if they continue to make claims against the Royal family, if they turn out to be unsubstantiated.
