This past week, we saw a couple of big debuts on AEW Dark. Marina Shafir made her AEW debut following her WWE release, and the ROH Pure Champion Josh Woods was on hand. Both would lose their matches, but the door was left open for further matches with the company.
Josh Woods Had A Good Meeting With AEW Owner Tony Khan
Woods would even get to meet the owner of AEW Tony Khan, and would have the following to say about their meeting. This information comes from the Pro Wrestling Boom podcast, hosted by Jason Powell.
“He was there and I did get to meet him. I spoke with him a little bit. He is a freaking great guy – he is intimidating. I’ve had a lot of really intimidating and authoritative figures in my life from coaches and peers I’ve looked up to, but I was super nervous. I’m such a goober. I had the opportunity to talk to him for a little bit. He was so humble and very approachable. Instantly, that intimidation factor was gone. He was welcoming and warm. It was nice and refreshing. I can see why people love being there and like Tony so much. I definitely like Tony.”
On His Match With Shawn Spears
When it comes to the opponent of Shawn Spears, this was someone that Woods has worked with in the past. While it’s often overlooked, he had a short stint in WWE – and was in NXT at the same time as Spears was, back when he was Tye Dillenger. This is what he had to say about Spears.
“I was pumped and Shawn has always been a great guy. He is so freaking smart. He understands every aspect of wrestling and even the brief interaction we had, I’ve learned a lot from him in that part. I’ve been to Flatbacks a couple of times and every time I’ve gone there, I always come out better than when I went in. It’s a testament to how great Shawn is.”
