Sean O’Malley might be set to take on Raulian Paiva at UFC 269 next month, but he’s already teeing up another fight. He told The Timbo Sugar Show podcast that he wants Adrian Yanez next, seeing the fight as an exciting stylistic matchup.
“Adrian Yanez won, I called him out, he talked sh*t. We’ll probably fight in March. He sounded stupid. I was like, ‘Damn, that’s a sick fight. That’d be a sweet next matchup’ because every time he’s fought, I’m like, ‘Damn.’
Sean O’Malley Calls Out Adrian Yanez
He always puts on a performance. It’s always a fun fight to watch and Din Thomas says he looks like a young Jorge Masvidal. Like, damn, that’s sick. He does.”
O’Malley’s technical striking style has made him a formidable opponent, although he has yet to take on a ranked fighter in the Octagon.
Yanez, on the other hand, boasts a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and has nine knockouts on his resume to boot, as well as a recent decision victory over Davey Grant. O’Malley called Yanez out earlier this year, and endured some trash talk as a result.
“Yeah, I would definitely fight Sean O’Malley,” Yanez told reporters at the time. “Right now he says he wants to get a ranked opponent and all that stuff but he’s dodging all these other ranked opponents.” O’Malley was light-hearted in his recent response, and reiterated his desire to take Yanez on in March.
“I said it would be fun to fight him in March, and I mean – you get called out, you take it as disrespect in a way. He did that. Automatically, he was like, ‘Well, he knocked out Eddie Wineland, then he knocked out Thomas Almeida’ and he’s just trying to find things to talk sh*t about, which I didn’t – I wanna fight because I think it’d be a sweet fight. March, and I’m not taking Paiva light either. I’ve got to get through Paiva first, but I think that would be a next sweet fight. March.”
Sean O’Malley is one of the biggest rising stars in the UFC, with a reputation for stunning knockout victories. Although he remains unranked, and has yet to take on a ranked opponent, O’Malley’s penchant for trash talk and remarkable finishes seemingly has him on the path to UFC success.
