Wheel of Fortune was subject to backlash after a situation where a contestant got the puzzle correct but didn’t win. Now Audi says that constant Charlene Rubush would be gifted the car instead.
A Dicey Puzzle and Dicey Ruling on Wheel of Fortune
The show is no stranger to hard puzzles and close calls but this one was something else. Making it to the bonus round, Charlene Rubush was playing for an Audi Q3 which starts at almost $36,000.

During the bonus round, contestants are given an opportunity to fill in a few missing letters in addition to the letters that Wheel of Fortune puts up on the puzzle board. After that, the contestant is given ten seconds to solve it.
The puzzle’s theme was “What are you doing?” Rubush initially guessed “Choosing the right card” which was incorrect. In her second attempt, she correctly guessed “Choosing the right word.”
However, there’s a somewhat obscure rule that says that the answer has to be in one sentence or in one breath? Charlene Rubush hesitated on “word”. Pat Sajak told Charlene that it was tough since she said the right words but “We’ll allow for a little pause, but not four or five seconds.”

I didn’t even know there was a “pause time limit” rule on Wheel of Fortune. He added, “You did a good job of getting it but we can’t give you the prize, and it was the Audi.”
Twitter, A Jeopardy Winner, and Audi Chime In
This resulted in support for Rubush on Twitter as the video where she lost was shared. Even former Jeopardy winner Alex Jacob weighed in saying:
“Come on @WheelofFortune, the woman literally chose the right word. Give her the car.”
That got a lot of attention on the platform and Jacob would contact Audi about the result. He would later get a DM from Audi that they were discussing the situation. It would be a few hours before Audi tweeted:
“You’re a winner in our eyes, Charlene. Now, let’s get you a prize. Time to #GiveHerTheQ3.”
Audi of America’s Chief Marketing Officer, Tara Rush, told CNN “It is the season of giving after all and, technicality or not, we are always eager to share a bit of Audi magic and cheer!”
