Last week, Leyla Hirsch snapped. She was sick of being held back from victories due to having to tag with the likes of Red Velvet & Kris Statlander. An attack on Statlander sealed her turn, and tonight – fans will get to see a different side of Hirsch as she goes one on one with Red Velvet at Beach Break. Her recent match on AEW Dark barely went a minute before she slapped on that armbar, and Red Velvet better watch out for that submission tonight.
Julia Hart Accepts Title Shot, The #1 Ranked Red Velvet Gets Taken Out By Leyla Hirsch
We’d catch up with Julia Hart & Griff Garrison, with Smart Mark Sterling showing up to say that Jade Cargill requested Hart for a title match. Garrison said that Hart needs to take more time to recover, but she’s ready for Cargill this Friday – even with the eyepatch still on her eye after the mist attack of Malakai Black.
Red Velvet wasted no time rushing the ring, and taking Hirsch down with a leg lariat. The Final Slice was set, but Hirsch fled the ring. Velvet would be pulled outside and driven into the barricade, before Hirsch got some payback with a kick to the neck and a knee to the face.
A stunner in the ropes would drop Hirsch, before Velvet dared to go for the armbar. Hirsch would power Velvet up and powerbomb her into the corner. Throughout the commercial break, Hirsch would work over the arm – before a German Suplex chucked her across the ring.
Velvet would hit a desperate corkscrew stunner out of the corner, before a double knee strike to the back. A spear would get a two count, before a knee strike set up that Legit Lock – but Velvet got a foot on the bottom rope.
Hirsch would get caught with an inside cradle while setting up a submission, before blocking the Final Slice with a roll up and a handful of tights got the three count. After the match, Legit Lock was applied again, and Kris Statlander would run Hirsch off.
Britt Baker Is On Fire In AEW
Last week didn’t go as planned for the power couple of AEW. While yes, Britt Baker & Adam Cole won their mixed tag team debut – things ended with Britt Baker laying at ringside surrounded by the remains of a table. Adam Cole will fight for her honour later tonight in a Lights Out match, but right now we will hear from the AEW World Women’s Champion on her injury status – and to celebrate cleaning up the PWIawards.
She claimed Match of the Year, Most Improved, and Best Female – and is still riding high as champion. This was also all done with a broken wrist. Before Baker rose to the top, this division was a wasteland – but she turned it into a utopia. She’s made the belt matter, and keeps making history. First female signed to AEW, first female main event, and she’s just getting started. She wants to be female of the decade, and is well on her way.
