A long-awaited grudge match between UFC welterweights and former teammates Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal has finally been confirmed. The former teammates, roommates, and self-described “best friends” will headline UFC 272 in March, and “Chaos” Covington cannot wait to get his hands on “Gamebred”.
He reportedly texted ESPN’s Brett Okamoto with a simple message. “He better f*****g show up.”
Covington vs Masvidal confirmed for UFC 272: “He better f*****g show up”
This fight announcement comes hot on the heels of years of bad blood between Covington and Masvidal. Although the two were once good friends, a falling out a few years back led to endless sledging and baiting in the press.
Both Covington and Masvidal are fresh off the back of their second loss to welterweight champ Kamaru Usman, and the winner of this fight is likely to earn himself a trilogy against the champ should he be able to maintain some momentum.
Colby Covington had a typically profane prediction for the fight when speaking to Submission Radio. “He’s just gonna get dumped on his head and knocked the f**k out unconscious. So, what’s that guy gonna do?
I mean this is the fight that has to happen after he keeps running his mouth. I’m a coward, I’m fragile, I’m this, I’m that, no you’re the b***h. You’re the fragile brittle little b***h, you know.
I’m the king of Miami, everybody knows that. I run these streets here. The 305 is mine. I occupy this whole territory. No one can say any different and he knows that.”
Colby Covington continued, declaring that he wants Jorge Masvidal’s semi-facetious “BMF” belt. The “Bad Mother F***er” belt was a novelty accolade offered to the winner of Jorge Masvidal vs Nate Diaz a few years back, which Masvidal won via doctor’s stoppage. It’s unclear if the BMF title is on the line at UFC 272 but Colby wants regardless.
“Show up or just shut your f*****g mouth and let the real men do work. I’m still going to be here. Put that f***ing whack a*s BMF belt back on the f***ing line.
Everybody knows who the real baddest motherf***er in this sport is. It’s Colby ‘Chaos’ Covington. Bring that f*****g belt out, and let’s f***ing do this s**t.”
Do you think Jorge Masvidal’s legendary punching power is enough to take out the infamously tough Colby “Chaos” Covington, or will Colby take the win? Let us know in the comments.
