For many years now, WWE fans have gotten to know the voice of Corey Graves very well. From NXT to Wrestlemania, Corey Graves has become one of the most prominent commentators in WWE for the past decade. He’s worked alongside just about everyone, with his most recent gig being alongside Byron Saxton & Jimmy Smith on Monday Night RAW. However, he’s also a former NXT Tag Team Champion – having joined WWE after years wrestling on the indies… and WWE fans might be reminded of his in ring skills very soon.
Corey Graves Has Been Working Towards A Return For A While Now
The reason why Graves was taken out of the ring was a string of concussions suffered in NXT. Two concussions was enough to have WWE force him into retirement, but he’d quickly find his feet with a role in commentary. Since then, fans have always wondered what could have been, with the assumption that Graves would have easily become a multi-time WWE Intercontinental Champion.
However, we could now have a second chance to see Graves work his magic in the ring. Videos have come out of Graves training with his brother and taking bumps, and tweets from Graves hinted towards an in-ring return. Now, we have a report from Fightful.com, that Graves has been cleared by WWE for an in-ring return.
A Likely Surprise For The Royal Rumble
This will likely be used to have Graves enter the Royal Rumble as a surprise entrant, which would mark his return to the ring for the first time in about 7 years. A lot of WWE fans have no clue that Graves was even a wrestler, which could lead to a big surprise for many.
Graves getting cleared comes after Edge, Christian Cage, Bryan Danielson and even NJPW star Katsuyori Shibata have all been able to return to the ring. It’s becoming more and more common that injured stars are able to return to the ring. However, Graves might be more looking for part time wrestling, as his commentary gig remains solid.
