If the WWE has no qualms in giving away top flight talent and wrestling minds, it only makes sense others won’t have a problem in trying to sign them if they can help their product and grow.
That appears to be the case as Tommy Dreamer announced on a recent episode of Busted Open Radio that he offered William Regal a position with Impact Wrestling if and when he’s able to make a move.
Special thanks to wrestleview.com for the transcript.
“If you look at management, and you look at, let’s say, the New York Giants, their G.M. is retiring, and then there goes the head coach that he picked…There goes everyone associated with that person. Triple H is no longer in charge, and everyone associated with him is gone. The only guy who’s remained is Shawn, but Shawn was a Vince guy before he was a Triple H guy…Regal, the moment I heard, I shot him a text and said, If you want to be a commentator at IMPACT, or if you want to be a General Manager figure, just let me know. He will have something when he chooses to.”
We won’t know if Regal’s interested of not until his (assumed) 90 day non-compete clause ends on April 5, but he’s more than qualified for either of those positions and more
So many possibilities
As Dreamer mentioned, since Vince McMahon and Bruce Prichard have taken over running NXT, anything tied to Triple H’s efforts the last ten years has been wiped away for NXT to be a true developmental brand.
In the process, Regal was one of those released as he joined the last batch on January 5.
He was with the WWE for 21 years and last served as Director of Talent Development and Head of Global Recruiting, as well as the chief talent scout for the WWE.
Another hat he wore was on screen as the NXT General Manager until this last fall.
AEW or Impact
If he does sign with Impact Wrestling, he’d be great joining Tom Halifan on commentary, and if he’s an authority figure, just imagining him clashing with Moose and Sami Callihan creates all sorts of possibilities.
AEW is another genuine possibility, though from reports they’re close to having a bloated roster and they have good wrestling minds behind the scenes.
Even with that, he’d add a great deal of credibility to the company for their many naysayers and it would only help them in the long run.
Out of all the free agents, Regal could be one of the most important in a long time as he can play so many roles and influence so many wrestlers.
