On August 30, 2021 we lost one of the true legends from television history when Ed Asner passed away at the age of 91.
As the news spread, people offered their condolences and shared their memories of his show, movies, and meetings, and one really struck us.
We are all walking history books with what we’ve seen, experienced, and shared in life, and Tommy Dreamer took to social media to share some of his memories from when he and Asner met while working on a movie.
While he didn’t mention a movie, most likely because it could’ve been taken as a shameless plug, and taken away from what he wanted to say, we think it’s Saving Christmas from 2017.
They’re both credited, but we could be wrong. We do enjoy anything Ed Asner was in, so it’ll probably become a guilty pleasure of ours in the future.
Spent a few days w/Ed Asner filming a movie
He went to school w/ Bob Orton Sr
We talked about The Wrestler movie
Told me some great Rhodes & Murdoch stories

Fitting tribute
Most often when we think of someone giving a tribute we imagine a grand speech with some impactful message, but the best ones to us are usually the quick rehashing of memories.
In a way, it’s like refining what’s going to be said takes away from the initial emotion. It’s not fresh, if that makes any sense.
Keeping it short and simple, Dreamer posted:
“Spent a few days w/Ed Asner filming a movie
“He went to school w/ Bob Orton Sr
“We talked about The Wrestler movie
“Told me some great Rhodes & Murdoch stories
“The awesome people you meet along the way in your journey in life”
There’s so much history and weight and teaching in those four sentences, and it was meant with a series of awe inspired comments back like MVP saying “Wow…” and Shane Helms “Jealous” on Instagram.
Cherished time
Fans have asked Dreamer to share some of those stories and he may do so on social media or his podcast, so we’ll have to wait and see.
Just imagining listened to Asner talk about Bob Orton Sr. (Randy Orton’s grandfather) and more would be more than enough to keep us entertained and enthralled for days on end.
It’s one of the great things about living a long life, and it’s just another reason to celebrate Ed Asner’s life as we should anyone’s.
We want to thank him for his decades of entertaining us, and thank Tommy Dreamer for sharing his memories. We hope there’s more to come, but if not we’re not going to be disappointed.
My thoughts and prayers are with Ed Asner’s family and friends as they grieve and celebrate his life.
