It has been quite some time since fans have seen Kairi Sane. The already legendary Japanese female wrestler has been in WWE since 2017, but left the ring in 2020. Her final match came in the WWE Thunderdome against Bayley, which would see her leave for Japan and work as a WWE Ambassador. That was how she chose to ride out the rest of her WWE contract, which comes to an end very soon.
Kairi Sane Refused New WWE Deal, Stardom Interested In Bringing Her Back
A report from Fightful.com shows that Sane’s deal with WWE is up next month. This comes after reports in December of WWE trying to re-sign Sane. The plan was to have her return to the ring, which would have been a big boost for the women’s division – but Sane refused this new deal. Clearly having no interest in staying with WWE, Sane recently removed most mentions of WWE from her social media, and has teased a return to the ring.
This very well could come in Japan with the Stardom promotion, where Kairi wrestled for many years as Kairi Hojo. Having been one of the biggest stars in the promotion, it’s obvious why they want her back. Stardom are hoping to have 2022 be their biggest year to date, but recently lost some big names with the likes of Jungle Kyona leaving.
Wanting To Stay Closer To Home Than WWE Allows
Sane doesn’t seem keen on leaving Japan, wanting to stay close to her husband. This is likely why she turned down the contract offer from WWE. If she returns to the ring for Stardom, we could see her show up in AEW as well – but as a special guest more than anything. AEW has worked with Stardom in the past, and features a lot of joshi wrestlers on their programming.
Stardom could benefit a lot from having such a recognizable name return to their roster. They were able to run the Nippon Budokan in 2021, and hope to fit even higher heights in 2022. Getting Kairi Hojo back into the mix could give a lot of buzz, and continue to push them higher and higher.
