Matt Cardona became a free agent a few days ago when his contract with Impact Wrestling ended, and he’s been have fun playing heel to fans online while asking where he should go next.
This garnered him a few shots by fans and he responded in heel fashion, which he looks like he’s really enjoying the role in GCW.
He doesn’t hold much back and it’s great to see how much he’s grown since joining Impact Wrestling and working the Indie circuit that currently includes the NWA.
His new persona is a far cry from his days in the WWE and he’s been growing in popularity.
But his dream was to work for the WWE, and he recently appeared on Busted Open with Bully Ray and Dave LeGreca to promote The WRLD at the GCW event on January 23 when the topic came up.
Open to going home again
There’s just one catch to him returning to the WWE, and that’s he wants to keep doing his podcast with Brian Myers. When Bully Ray asked if he’d be on the next Raw if Vince McMahon called, he said he would, but he also pointed out that the WWE can’t stop this podcast.
Special thanks to Sescoops.com for the following transcript.
“…I’d definitely would listen, but I tell you right now if one of things were you can’t do your podcast, I’ll say thanks but no thanks. That would be a deal-breaker, no way. If there were going to just take away everything that I’ve built with Brian Myers, like something we tried to do in WWE. The Major Wrestling Figures Podcast, they didn’t want it. We pitched it to them. They didn’t want podcasts. They didn’t want anything to do with collectibles. I think they’ve since had a failing podcast network, and they tried something with collectibles, but I’ve had so much fun with this, and this is setting me up for life after wrestling where I would never sacrifice that.”
Cardona was released in 2020 after ten years with the company, and made sure to share his appreciation for what they’ve given him and he has no animosity toward the WWE.
“…I’ve said this, and I don’t mean this as an insult. WWE was my developmental. That’s not a shot a WWE, that is that everything that I learned there the good and the bad I’m using it to make me succeed.”
There’s always a chance we could see him appear at the Royal Rumble, and the WWE is desperate to gain more fans and get news, hence Johnny Knoxville taking part, so at this point we’re not ruling anything out.
