The past year or so has been a rocky time for WWE and their talents. The past year saw over 80 talents either be released or refuse to sign new contracts, and this year saw Toni Storm walk out after being unsatisfied with her place in the company. She’s not the only one feeling this way – as Mustafa Ali has now requested his release from his WWE contract.
Mustafa Ali Requests His Release
Ali would publicly request his release via Twitter. He would have the following to say in a short video post.
“I have a message that is much bigger than my dreams in pro wrestling. Despite my best efforts, I will not be able to deliver this message while working with WWE. Therefore, I am requesting my release from WWE.”
This doesn’t come as a shock. Ali has long been recognized by fans as a top star, but has been stuck in the undercard for years. WWE gave him a chance in the main event with a feud against Daniel Bryan in 2018, but it did not stick. Ali put his all into gimmicks such as the leader of Retribution – but wasn’t able to save the faction.
Kept Home After A Disagreement With Vince McMahon About His Character
This also comes after WWE has been keeping Mustafa Ali at home. While at first Ali had requested a short amount of time off for paternity leave – but has been ready to return since December. Even with the roster being thin, he’s been left at home. This also seems to have come after Ali pitched a new character to Vince McMahon. The character was accepted, before Vince changed his mind. After that, Vince reportedly pitched “something Mustafa Ali would never have done.”
Ali has been very clear that he never wants to portray a generic foreign heel gimmick, which is very likely what Vince McMahon would pitch. This is a very common character through the history of WWE, most notably seen recently during the WWE Championship reign of Jinder Mahal.
We will do our best to keep you up to date on this situation. Mustafa Ali is the type who will shine wherever he goes, and being in WWE just helped him to build his fanbase. What are your favorite Ali matches or moments in WWE? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
