Every week ahead of NXT 2.0, WWE does the tapings for 205 Live. Long past it’s days as the home of cruiserweight action in WWE, 205 Live now serves as more of a place for NXT talent to get some extra ring time. This was the case this week, but things hardly went as planned – as fan favorite Odyssey Jones has suffered an injury.
Odyssey Jones Gets Injured During Match With Saruv
This would come during a taped match against Saruv. Saruv is best known for being one half of the failed ‘Indus Sher’ tag team, and for being the one who spoiled the result of Adam Cole vs. Keith Lee back at Great American Bash 2020. The match would need to be stopped after Jones got hurt, with the exact injury unknown.
Jones has been pushed as one of the more popular babyface names in NXT, going all the way to the finals in the NXT Breakout tournament. He’d recently worked with the likes of Roderick Strong in some big singles matches, and despite his inexperience was able to hold his own. Hopefully this injury doesn’t derail his career too hard, as WWE needs to produce stars fast with NXT 2.0.
Should WWE Rebrand 205 Live?
This also puts a spotlight back on 205 Live, which is one of WWE’s least promoted weekly shows. Tied with WWE Main Event for this spot, WWE likes to almost pretend 205 Live does not exists. Debuts are tested there, and then brought to NXT 2.0. Similar tactics are used on Main Event, where Veer has arrived, and Pete Dunne & Tommaso Ciampa recently worked matches for the main roster.
Main Event is easy enough to market, but WWE is better off just keeping it as a lowkey show for Hulu and international markets. However, 205 Live was based around the Cruiserweights for so long – and mentioning that folks like Jones are working it has people confused about the weight limit that was imposed of 205lbs. WWE teased rebranding the show in a promo from Joe Gacy, but it has yet to come.
Do you think Odyssey Jones will be able to bounce back? Will WWE bother rebranding 205 Live? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
