UFC welterweight and self-proclaimed “psychopath” Sean Strickland took to Twitter this week to brutally slam his fellow fighters, particularly former bantamweight champ TJ Dillashaw, for using performance-enhancing drugs.
The opening salvo in Strickland’s Twitter rampage was aimed squarely at the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) and what he saw as a lenient punishment for Dillashaw, who failed a drug test over two years ago.
Strickland Savages “Scum” Dillashaw, Calls for Lifetime Doping Ban
“Only thing @usantidoping is good at is catching broke fighters who can’t afford good shit lol! Steroids should be a life time ban.. @TJDillashaw is the absolute scum of the earth and should never be allowed to compete I’m the UFC again.. You ruined people’s careers you’re scum.”
TJ Dillashaw was suspended for two years following his USADA violation. Dillashaw failed a drug test after he moved down to flyweight and lost a fight against then-champ Henry Cejudo. Dillashaw was just one of over one hundred fighters to have tested positive for PED use since the implementation of USADA in the UFC in 2015.
Suspensions typically range from months to years, and Dillashaw’s was one of the highest-profile doping violations in UFC history. Dillashaw recently returned to competition and was awarded a controversial split decision win over Cory Sandhagen in his comeback fight.
Sean Strickland thinks any PED violation ought to expel the fighter for life. Sean Strickland even went after disgraced UFC fighter Jon Jones, who he says could have been the greatest fighter ever, until he “completely erased” his impressive legacy by doping. ““Greatest fighter to ever step in the ufc… completely erased by doping.”
Jon Jones was suspended for a year for using Clomiphen and Letrozole way back in 2016. Later, in 2018, Jones clearly had not learned his lesson, and was suspended for a further fifteen months after testing positive for anabolic steroid use. Jones, more recently, was arrested and faced charges of domestic violence.
Sean Strickland seems to have steroids on his mind lately, as he has also accused Israel Adesanya, the UFC’s middleweight champion, of PED use. Strickland praised both Adesanya and Jones’ fighting ability, but reserved special ire for “absolute scum of the earth” TJ Dillashaw.
That might just be because Adesanya and Jones both compete at heavier weights than Sean Strickland, or Strickland might simply really dislike TJ Dillashaw.
Do you think there ought to be harsher punishments for PED violations in the UFC? Let us know in the comments.
