Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been encouraged to sue over YouTube accounts producing and monetizing alleged ‘hate campaigns’ against them.
Report Suggests That Youtube Accounts Are Conspiring To Create ‘Hate Campaigns’ Against Prince Harry And Meghan Markle-‘Meghan Should Sue’
According to Bot Sentinel, which analyses accounts on social media, an increasing number of accounts have engaged in hate campaigns against Prince Harry and Meghan Markle by being monetized.
And in one such finding, it is alleged that a syndicate of channels on Youtube had generated over 400 million views and counting. In the process of doing so, this has created over $3 million in earnings.
In an official statement by the company, a representative said: “[The] single-purpose hate accounts have turned targeted harassment and coordinated hate campaigns into a lucrative hate-for-profit enterprise.”
If these comments are taken to be true, then it does highlight the need for reform on social media. And yet, at the same time, there is a very fine line to tread here for the following reasons.
First of all, it is a case of whether freedom of speech should be respected. If that is taken as an unqualified right, then there is nothing to get in the way of stopping that.
Secondly, given that Harry has increasing concerns about traveling to the UK unless he is allowed to fund his own security, there is a feeling that this report could justify his concerns. This is especially in light of the following findings.
The report added: “Their efforts allowed them to interact with journalists and royal experts, who then, in some circumstances, amplified the falsehoods.”
The response on social media was one of outrage. A large proportion of people felt that something had to be done in order to protect Harry and Meghan from being subjected to such scrutiny.
One person on Twitter wrote: “Meghan should sue Twitter and YouTube. That’s how she can put a stop to it all. Plus, she would win big time.
“They are allowing people to threaten her and her family and making $$. Sue them.” These findings clearly demonstrate that there is still a long way to go before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are fully accepted once again – obviously suing media outlets won’t help!
