Seth Rollins is the one who created Roman Reigns. During their time together in The Shield, he planted seeds to make Reigns a star. Since breaking the faction up, Rollins has also been able to stay one step ahead of Reigns. Tonight, they meet once again – and this time, the 500+ day reign of Roman Reigns as Universal Champion is Rollins to take. Add in The Uso’s being barred from ringside, and no Paul Heyman – and The Tribal Chief needs to truly fight alone tonight.
Seth Rollins Turns Back The Clock
Rollins would shock everyone, and come out to The Shield’s theme song – and with his old Shield gear. Ripping through the packed crowd, Reigns just had to stand and watch as Rollins soaked in the cheers from the crowd. With this one move, he’s not only gotten into the head of Reigns – but got the crowd on his side.
Reigns would rush into Rollins, before tossing him into the corner for some lariats. Rollins got free, and stomped Reigns down before hitting a running elbow and slingblade. Reigns was sent to the outside, and Rollins nailed a set of dives – crushing The Tribal Chief into the barricade. Back in the ring, Rollins went for the flying knee strike – but was caught with an open palmed uppercut from Reigns.
Taking refuge on the ropes would just lead to Rollins taking the Drive-By Kick to the face. Reigns wanted to follow up with a superman punch, but Rollins instead caught him with a powerbomb through the announce desk. Back in the ring, Rollins went across the ring with a frog splash – but only got a two count. Going even higher risk, Rollins would tease the Phoenix Splash – but Reigns dodged and went for the Spear.
Reigns would take a knee to the face, and Rollins followed up with the elbow to the back of the head and the Buckle Bomb. Curb Stomp would land – but Reigns kicked out at two. Reigns would be taunted by Rollins, before catching him with a big lariat. Some heavy punches on the mat would crush Rollins, but the referee forced Reigns to stop or be DQ’d. Reigns lifted Rollins up into a powerbomb instead, getting a two count.
Roman Reigns Takes The DQ Loss – Remains WWE Universal Champion
Rollins would sucker Reigns in, and applied a tight triangle choke on the mat. Reigns was able to power his way out – nailing another powerbomb, before sending Rollins into the ring post. On the outside, Rollins was then thrown into the timekeepers area, before Reigns plucked him up and sent him into the steel steps.
Back in the ring, Reigns would nail the Superman Punch – but only got a two count. Rollins rolled to the outside, but Reigns followed him for the Spear. Back into the ring, Reigns wanted the killing blow, but Rollins blocked the spear mid-air into a pedigree for a near fall. Back at Money in The Bank 2016 – another Pedigree ended the match in favour of Rollins – but tonight he would go for another Curb Stomp instead, and was blocked.
After another big uppercut, Rollins would be cut down with a spear, but just laughed as Reigns wanted the pinfall. The fist bump would be offered, as Rollins cackled like a hellhound on the mat. Finding his happy space, Reigns would resist the mind games and apply the choke, the move that ended some of his biggest matches in recent memory. Rollins fought like hell, and was able to find the bottom rope before he passed out.
Reigns would keep the choke on, and take the DQ loss – remaining WWE Universal Champion in the process. The referee would plead for Reigns to let go, and he eventually would – blaming this on Rollins. He’d grab a steel chair, and get Rollins on the back – like Rollins did years ago to break up The Shield.
