Things have taken a curious turn over the last few weeks, according to Dave Meltzer and the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
There was plenty of fans going back and forth when Jeff reportedly failed a drug test and refused to go to rehab after he walked out of a live match, and was later released as a result.
The fans were split in his camp when he said he didn’t fail it, and others that accepted that he gave into his demons again and refused to own up to it.
Now, it looks like the WWE knows they made a mistake, or are appearing that’s their belief as Meltzer claimed they’ve been trying to bring him back with various offers the last few weeks.
One of those were reportedly an offer for a 2022 Hall of Fame induction from John Laurinaitis and Jeff not only turned it down but asked for his drug test results to be sent to him.
It reportedly took 6 weeks for the results to be given to him.
More to this
We have to give Jeff props on saying no to the WWE, and it’s a sign there are plenty of options available, and according to Meltzer, the reason they tried to resign him is to keep him from going to AEW for a Hardy Boys reunion the fans would love.

”There is a feeling right now that this is one guy they don’t want in AEW because of the realization the Hardy Boys will be revitalized as an act given the level of teams like the Young Bucks, FTR, Santana & Ortiz, Penta & Fenix and so many others.”
Given how much talent the WWE has given away, they may have thought one more wouldn’t hurt and acted rashly. Now, they could pay for it in viewers and AEW’s continued growth.
Sami Zayn wanted a ladder match
Also according to Meltzer, Sami Zayn pitched an idea to WWE Creative for him and Sami Zayn to have a ladder match at WrestleMania 38.
Special thanks to acesparks.com for the transcript:
“I had spoken with creative about a storyline with Jeff Hardy. Jeff was one of my heroes when I was a teenager. He was one of my biggest inspirations when I started. My idea was to have a ladder match against him at WrestleMania. I had a big storyline planned in my head, but unfortunately, two weeks after speaking with creative about it, he was fired.”
This would’ve been a great match, especially knowing how much Jeff’s career has meant to him. Hindsight is always 20/20, but now we’ll have to wait and see if their paths cross again.
