According to social media, Kanye West is beefing with the preschooler cartoon character Peppa Pig. Back in the summer of 2021, Peppa Pig’s Peppa’s Adventures: The Album was released but it was recently pitted against Kanye West’s Donda in Pitchfork Review.
Peyton Thomas and Dylan Green handled the reviewing honors of Peppa’s Adventures: The Album and Donda. Peppa’s second album won with a rating of 6.5 while Donda picked up 6.0. The subtitles for both albums give you an insight into what Thomas and Green felt after checking them out.
A Kanye West Beef List on Social Media Includes Pegga Pig, Harriet Tubman, South Park and Other Odd Targets
Of Peppa Pig’s album, Thomas wrote:
The four-year-old pop phenom and famous pig’s second album is a charming and self-assured celebration of family, friendship, and muddy puddles.
It’s a children’s album and when looked at as such, you know what you’re getting into. If it delivers that much, the worst you can say is “More of the same”. Meanwhile, Kanye’s tenth full-length album had a lot of steam and anticipation behind it. This is hip-hop trailblazer Kanye West we’re talking about after all.
However, once the album dropped “mixed” is the best way to describe reactions. You could say it fell well short of universal acclaim. In his review’s subtitle, Green said this of Donda:
Kanye West’s 10th album arrives barely finished and with a lot of baggage. Its 27 tracks include euphoric highs that lack connective tissue, a data dump of songs searching for a higher calling.
Peppa Pig Is Just One of Many Odd Targets for Kanye West
Maybe you should ask “Why not?” It’s just February 2022, he’s been busy in social media and in his personal life with…everything. Why not leave it all on the dance floor and beef with a children’s cartoon character?
On February 20, Twitter user @DatChaosGuy tweeted “Peppa Pig dropped this and Kanye hasn’t been the same since” with a picture of Peppa Pig’s debut album cover. That tweet got traction, of course. When paired with a cheeky tweet from Peppa’s social media about not needing “listening parties in Mercedes-Benz Stadium to get that .5”, yeah there’s a bit of sting.
Remember, Kanye West went all-in for Donda as far as promotion goes with big listening parties and living in Mercedes-Benz Stadium for a month. It’s not surprising that when hip-hop analytics account @HipHopNumbers tweeted a list of Kanye “beef”, Ye added to the list on Instagram. Check it out below.
For most, the list was just posted in jest and honestly, a chunk of them weren’t beefing since most of the listed names didn’t bother to respond. You could go as far to say that a lot of it was “old man shouting at a cloud” energy.
