The future of the monarchy could be in doubt once Queen Elizabeth is no longer in charge according to an anti-monarchy group.
The CEO Of An Anti-Monarchy Group Suggests The Royal Family Cannot Survive Once Queen Elizabeth II Has Gone
That is according to the CEO of an anti-monarchy group ‘Republic’ Graham Smith. This is a very strong claim indeed, especially since the Queen has been in charge for around 70 years.
And with her Platinum Jubilee set to occur this year, there is a feeling that Queen Elizabeth’s influence has transcended so much that the institution would never be the same without her.
During an interview with the Express, Graham said: “I think that the monarchy is in a lot of trouble because the one person who protects it is the Queen.” If these comments are taken to be true, then it is understandable.
Prince Charles is next in line to the throne. But public opinion suggests that he is not the most popular member of the Royal family, Given that he did have an affair with none other than Duchess Camilla while he was married to the late Princess Diana.
Not only that, but reports also suggested that Prince Charles was the one who had expressed reservations about Prince Harry’s son Archie’s skin color.
But when it comes to the Queen, she has often been immune from criticism. Graham added: “People, rightly or wrongly, are reluctant to criticise her directly and the blame tends to shift to other people.
“But that deference and unwillingness to criticize is not going to be inherited by Charles. People are very happy to criticise and challenge him and obviously even more so his sons and his brother.”
With this approach going forward, Graham does not believe that the monarchy can stand up to scrutiny.
After all, one of the reasons why Prince Harry has not come out with full guns blazing against the Royal family has been because of Queen Elizabeth and her deteriorating health.
Once Queen Elizabeth is gone, the future looks bleak. Graham’s following comments confirmed as much: “So once the Queen is gone, and that’s probably going to be in the next five or six years, then all bets are off really as to how the Royal Family can survive.”
