Recently, NXT has gone through a lot of changes. The rebranding to NXT 2.0 in late 2021 was abrupt, and lost a lot of fans as new names flooded the brand. One such name was Grayson Waller, who was around since before NXT 2.0 – but only became a star with the transition, and he can thank AJ Styles for having a hand in this.
AJ Styles Wants To Help Create Stars For WWE
While speaking with Ryan Satin on the ‘Out Of Character’ podcast, AJ Styles would reveal why he went to NXT 2.0 for a brief feud with Grayson Waller. It wasn’t by force – but Styles chose to go down to help make a star.
“It wasn’t really a surprise because it was kind of my call. I thought it would be a good idea for guys like myself to go down to NXT and really say, ‘this is what we do on Raw and SmackDown so when you come up there are no surprises, no nothing, this is what we expect, these are the rules, by the way, they are little bit different than NXT, but this is what they are up here.”
Grayson Waller Was Chosen For Him, Styles Felt He’s Great
When it comes down to who chose Grayson Waller however, that was not the choice of Styles. However – Waller was able to impress Styles during their feud, with it showing why Waller is viewed as a star for the brand. Styles had the following to say about Waller.
“I did not handpick him. He was handpicked by someone else, but it was great. I’m a very hard-hitting kind of guy and I like to get snug. I told him what I wanted and he brought it. I was like, ‘Yes!’ It takes me to a different level. When I get hit, I’m like, ‘let’s go.’ I like that. He brought it and it was great.”
Following his match with Styles, Waller moved back into a feud with LA Knight – with them set to likely meet at NXT 2.0 Vengeance Day. Styles hasn’t returned to NXT since, but Dolph Ziggler seems set for a short run on the brand – recently calling out Bron Breakker.
