Coming into 2022, there was a lot of speculation about what was next in the career of Kevin Owens. His WWE contract was coming to an end, and there was a lot of teasing being done in regards to joining the AEW roster. Lots of his close friends were already in AEW, namely Adam Cole & The Young Bucks. However, he’d sign a new deal with WWE. WWE would end up giving him around 3 million dollars per year to stay. Still, it was not an easy choice. It was Vince McMahon himself who would get Owens to stick around.
Kevin Owens Is Going To Make The Most Of His Time In WWE
While speaking with Ryan Satin on the aptly named ‘Out of Character with Ryan Satin’ podcast, the contract negotiations of Owens & WWE would come up. Satin was wondering if the choice was easy to make, and how a deal was set. Owens had the following to say.
“No. I dealt with Vince McMahon directly, he made it clear he wanted me to stay, and we made an agreement right then and there. I am a big believer that my career is going to go the way it goes, and I’m going to do the best with it. I’m there now for a couple more years, I’m going to do my best to get opportunities, I’m going to knock them out of the park, and reap the benefits.”
KO-Mania Is Set To Get Legendary In Texas?
Right now, Kevin Owens is potentially on his way to the biggest match in his career at Wrestlemania. The current plan is for Kevin Owens to wrestle a returning ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin in Austin’s home state of Texas. In preparation – Owens has been trashing Texas at every turn. Add in that he’s been using the Stunner, a move perfected by Stone Cold, as a finisher for years and well? Return matches have had worse builds.
Getting major money to stay, and having a chance to share the ring and perhaps even wrestle one of the greatest to ever step foot into WWE? Owens is being treated well for sticking around in WWE – and might have found himself lost in the shuffle within the rather bloated roster of AEW. AEW has since added Keith Lee & Buddy Matthews to their roster, but also lost Cody Rhodes.
Do you think Owens made the correct choice remaining in WWE? Would he have become a bigger star in AEW? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
