Since leaving WWE’s NXT brand, Ricochet has had a hard time finding his footing in the company. A few brief runs in the spotlight included his time as United States Champion – but fans are underwhelmed with how Ricochet has been portrayed in the company. However, his fortunes might be changing – as WWE might have finally decided he is the star they need on Smackdown Live.
Ricochet Is Second To Only Drew McIntyre
Right now, Smackdown Live is very much ‘The Roman Reigns Show’, with the Tribal Chief and likely soon to be double world champion ruling over the brand. This has been the case ever since his return, and this has led to WWE having him be essentially undefeatable. The likes of Daniel Bryan & Cesaro were thrust into major babyface roles in the past to challenge Reigns, but they were swiftly shut down like everyone else.
Now with the exit of Cesaro from WWE, and a lack of babyface contenders for Reigns after Wrestlemania – they’re once again looking at Ricochet. His time in the WWE main event has been brief, getting a single title shot against Brock Lesnar, which led to him being crushed in a matter of moments. However, he might be in the firm #2 role for babyface talents on the brand – only behind Drew McIntyre very soon.
The Brightest His Career Has Looked On The Main Roster
It’s been reported by Ringside News writer Mike Johnson, that Ricochet is to receive a major push, with last weeks episode of Smackdown set to be the start of his rise. Internally, Ricochet is being looked at as a top singles babyface, but should Kofi Kingston, Big E or Shinsuke Nakamura move out of the tag team ranks – he could be bumped down.
However, this is as bright as the future has looked for Ricochet in WWE since his time as NXT North American Champion. It would not be hard to envision Ricochet as a star in WWE, and there is a potentially amazing clash of styles to be found if he challenges Roman Reigns.
Right now, Ricochet is set to challenge Sami Zayn for the WWE Intercontinental championship, a match he is projected to win with the aid of ‘Jackass’ star Johnny Knoxville. Knoxville is expected to face Zayn at Wrestlemania at the start of April.
