Since returning to the WWE, Sonya Deville has embraced the corrupt corporate manager perfectly as she’s remained neutral in most things except where Naomi and any of her allies are concerned.
After a year of her working as co-boss with Adam Pearce, she’s teased working with Charlotte Flair and others in a storyline that’s been here and there as it’s been drawn out longer than it probably should have.
The end result looks like it’s Sonya’s return to in ring action as she’s faced Naomi a few times and is expected to face Ronda Rousey this week in what we expect to be a largely one-sided affair.

Making it her own
While this storyline deserves plenty of criticism for the way it’s been handled, Sonya has been awesome in her role and always fun to watch. Whether it’s dealing with a frustrated wrestler or Naomi confronting her, Sonya’s sold it to the hilt and made the role hers.
Her investment has made the segments work as without a legitimate heel Naomi and now Ronda wouldn’t come off nearly as well.
As it turns out, Sonya’s first love of acting and performing helps her get into the character and have some fun with it. But everything starts somewhere, and she talked about that in a recent interview.

“It was actually a conversation with Vince where I was in his office. We were talking about how I was gonna re-debut and I just kind of mentioned to him that I had these three piece suits that I’d been wanting to wear on TV and that I thought a cool part of my character could be that I rock lady suits and I’m kind of a bad B, and I could be a boss.
“I wasn’t speaking literally, but (Vince McMahon) kind of sat there and envisioned what I was saying with the suits. He was like, ‘Do you have one on you?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, I have my all black one but it’s at my hotel.’ He’s like, ‘We’ll send someone to go get it.’
“Next thing you know, I was walking down the hallway in a three piece suit. I didn’t know where it was going, and it just organically evolved from there.”
This explains how the storyline has been erratic at times, but Sonya’s rocked her suits and the character she’s playing perfectly.
It’ll be a shame when she does go back to the ring full time, but maybe the WWE can find a way to balance the two?
