WWE Spoils Smackdown, Announces Sami Zayn Wins Intercontinental Championship
In an interesting twist, the WWE spoiled next week’s Intercontinental Championship match on Smackdown on social media and wwe.com.
They were taping for next week as they’ll be in Saudi Arabia for Elimination Chamber, and it was only a matter of time before fans released footage of the match, so they did it themselves.
The downside to them doing this Smackdown will likely take a ratings hit, but that seems to be a fair tradeoff to get a step ahead of the fans.

Sami Zayn wins
Sami Zayn defeated Shinsuke Nakamura for the Intercontinental Championship, but nothing more than that has come out from the WWE, but we’re sure fans will have images or videos before too long.
Currently, fans are sharing a tag team match between the Usos and Viking Raiders with Paul Heyman playing it up to the fans like he usually does.
If no images of videos of Sami and Nakamura surface, we’ll just have to tune in next Friday to watch what we’re guessing will be the best match of the night, but the Usos and Viking Raiders could get that spot as well, assuming they’ll have a match of some sort.
It’s going to be entertaining with Sami as the Intercontinental Champion again. He was entertaining his last run as he found every way he could to hold onto his title.
We’re curious what’s next for Sami or will they continue his and Nakamura’s feud? Maybe Boogs will have a chance at the Intercontinental title as well.
Mail in episode
While it’s reasonable for the WWE to try to get ahead of the curve with spoilers, it also makes next week’s episode feel like a mail in episode with the Elimination Chamber the next day.
It is still a Go Home episode and they’ll be more promos and other build and matches to help promote the event.
While it makes sense to pretape the show given their schedule, it curious how the WWE has railed against fans spoiling their events previously.
They even went so far as not having Lita take part in the 2020 Royal Rumble after fans shared footage of her during an entrance rehearsal.
In the end, only the WWE knows or understands why they do the things they do and they’re hoping fans will continue to tune in.
Their creative may be one of the worst, but their wrestlers put on a great show when they’re allowed to so we don’t see a reason not to at least watch the Intercontinental Championship match.
