We are on the road to Wrestlemania once again, and the two night extravaganza is set to host one of the biggest matches in the event’s history. WWE Champion Brock Lesnar is set to face WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns in a title unification match. This is the first time we’ve seen a match like this at Wrestlemania, and it could see the end of the current design of the top belt of WWE.
WWE Planning New Design For Top Championship For After Wrestlemania
Right now, both the WWE & Universal Championships share the same design. It’s fairly simple, featuring the WWE logo in the middle of a belt. The only difference is the Universal Championship has a blue strap, while the WWE Championship has a black strap. These belts have been around for years now, with very little change – aside from the Universal Championship moving from red to blue.
Now however, with the potential of championship unification on the horizon – WWE are reportedly planning for a new championship to replace the WWE Championship. This is similar to when the WWE Undisputed Championship was put into play – and the World Heavyweight Championship was introduced to Monday Night RAW. That belt was the one handed to Triple H.
First, Brock Lesnar Must Remain WWE Champion Through A Match At Madison Square Garden
However, the WWE Championship has a chance to change hands before we reach Wrestlemania. Brock Lesnar is set to defend the WWE Championship in ‘The World’s Most Famous Arena’ – Madison Square Garden. WWE are running the venue this Saturday under the classic branding of ‘Saturday Nights Main Event’ – and it’s been unclear if the event will be broadcasted on the WWE Network/Peacock streaming service.
We don’t even know who Lesnar will wrestle – as Bobby Lashley’s status is shaky due to injury. It’s been promised that Lesnar will have an opponent that night, it’s simply up in the air who he will face. There has been rumours this will be the return of Cody Rhodes. Rhodes recently finished with AEW, and is expected to return to WWE soon. Anything can happen in WWE, and promoting a unification match could simply be to lure fans into a false sense of security.
Will the unification match actually happen? Is WWE going to introduce a brand new World Championship? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
