Joe Rogan has plenty of famous friends and supporters emerging to throw their weight behind his controversial podcast. Amid the push to remove Rogan from Spotify, former US President Donald Trump has weighed in, expressing his support for Rogan while urging him not to apologize to the “fake news”.
Trump, who issued a statement via email because he was banned from Twitter, said nothing about any of Rogan’s controversies, instead taking issue with the apology itself.
Trump to Joe Rogan: “Stop Apologizing!”
“Joe Rogan is an interesting and popular guy, but he’s got to stop apologizing to the Fake News and Radical Left maniacs and lunatics.
How many ways can you say you’re sorry? Joe, just go about what you do so well and don’t let them make you look weak and frightened. That’s not you and it never will be!”
Joe Rogan has come under fire recently for allegedly disseminating COVID-19 misinformation and his previous use of the “N-Word”. He uploaded a lengthy statement in which he apologized for both, promising to “do better”.
“I never used it to be racist, because I’m not racist. But whenever you’re in a situation where you have to say, ‘I’m not racist,’ you’ve f***ed up, and I clearly have f***ed up.
There’s nothing I can do to take that back. I wish I could, obviously, that’s not possible.” Rogan also rejected the notion that he was deliberately courting controversy or issuing misinformation.
“I’m not trying to promote misinformation, I’m not trying to be controversial. I’ve never tried to do anything with this podcast other than to just talk to people.”
The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan’s podcast, is the biggest in the world. Spotify acquired the rights to the podcast for $100 million, marking the streaming platform’s pivot away from pure music streaming toward an “audio creator” experience.
The anti-Joe Rogan controversy picked up serious traction when Canadian folk singer-songwriter Neil Young told Spotify to choose between him and Joe Rogan. Young since issued a statement continuing to blast Spotify in the wake of his music’s removal from the platform.
“To the musicians and creators in the world, I say this: You must be able to find a better place than Spotify to be the home of your art.
To the workers at Spotify, I say [co-founder and chief executive officer] Daniel Ek is your big problem – not Joe Rogan. Ek pulls the strings. Get out of that place before it eats up your soul. The only goals stated by Ek are about numbers – not art, not creativity.”
