Drake is an artist who is extremely lucky in entertainment but sports betting is another thing. Dropping $275,000 on the UFC 272 main event, the Toronto rapper backed the underdog Jorge Masvidal to win.

As it happened, the expected winner—Colby Covington–took the match after it went to the judges. The decision was unanimous with the judges scoring the match 49-46, 50-44, and 50-44. Ever the natural heel, Covington trashed Drake by bringing up the $275,000 bet:
“Let’s talk about all the money that Drake lost tonight. He needs to go back to selling those sh***y albums to get back the money.”
The number one-ranked welterweight in UFC doubled up with the trash talk:
“Drake, you suck at sports betting. Go back to your sh***y little albums and rapping.”
No said that it was the most sizzling post-match roast but he got his jab in. Drake’s last album Certified Lover Boy dropped in September 2021 and broke Billboard records as the fastest hip-hop album to go platinum despite mixed reactions.
CLB holds the distinction of being the only hip-hop album from 2021 to go double platinum so losing $275,000 isn’t a particularly massive blow for the “Way 2 Sexy” artist but it is definitely frustrating.
Covington’s win over number six-ranked Masvidal brings his record to 17-3 with the UFC 272 bout seeing him rebound following a second clapping from Kamaru Usman at UFC 268. Meanwhile, Masvidal has suffered his third straight loss with the previous two also coming from Covington’s nemesis Usman.
With this match, Jorge Masvidal’s record sits at 35-16. The match between Covington and Masvidal won “Match of the Night” honors.
