UFC welterweight Kevin Holland has added yet another heroic deed to his resume. While out at a Houston restaurant, Holland took down and apprehended a gun-wielding maniac who opened fire in the restaurant.
Kevin Holland told ESPN his side of the story: “I wouldn’t tell the next person to do it unless they’re seriously trained for that type of situation.

Besides doing cage fighting, I train self-defense first and foremost. For me, that was the best way to defend myself at the moment. Plus, I like Batman.” Patrick Robinson, a friend of Kevin Holland’s, was interviewed in the wake of the altercation.
“We were eating, and the next thing you know, a gunshot just popped off. So everything paused and then everybody started running to get down under a table.
We got him down, apprehended him, got the gun away from him and the bag that he had.” The media wanted Kevin Holland to do an interview at the time, to which he replied:
“Yo, they was tripping tonight. They got a shootout in this b****. They got into a shootout in this thing. They wanted me to do an interview but I’m like, nah, I’m good.”
This comes only months after another incident in which Kevin Holland got to play Batman. In October, he apprehended an alleged car thief, also in Houston, using his MMA training to quickly and efficiently subdue the perpetrator.
“I pull up, I got my coffee mug, so I’m like this time I’m gonna be prepared. I got my coffee cup. I’m chasing down after him and he reaches down to kind of go like this, I don’t know if he’s saying stop or what? I go like this with the coffee mug, and then I hit him with a little sweep.
Get on top, knee on belly, hit him with the little Khabib scarf hold. He was like, ‘I can’t breathe,’ so that’s when I picked him up, put him on the curb. I didn’t want to be like the cop with the Can’t Breathe guy, so I was like f*** it let’s just put him over here.”
Kevin Holland is riding high after a vicious knockout win over Alex Oliveira at UFC 272. With yet another heroic deed on his CV, Holland’s confidence will be at an all-time high. Whether he can channel this into a run at the welterweight belt is another story. For now, we applaud Kevin Holland for his heroic deeds.
