The roots of Jorge Masvidal’s hatred for Colby Covington lay deep. Apparently, when Masvidal and Covington were training – and living – under the same roof, “Gamebred” was warned by Covington’s former roommate Jon Jones about Colby’s kleptomaniac tendencies. Masvidal told ESPN that Jon Jones “warned” him that Colby was untrustworthy and prone to acts of theft.
“Jon Jones warned me numerous times. Me and Jon Jones weren’t even cool like that. We hadn’t spoken too much. But he sent a couple messages to me via our manager at the time. Like, ‘Man, watch this guy. He stole my clothes. My clothes don’t even fit him. He robbed me of money before we left the room. I never talked to him again.’
Masvidal Claims Covington Robbed Jon Jones, Colby Responds
Do you know what would happen if he was to run into Jon Jones? He would sprint out of the room. He would run so fast.
But if he’s on Twitter on his computer, man, he’s poppin’ off. What would happen if they crossed at Whole Foods or somethin’? (Covington) would jet out of there. I can’t respect that. If you say something, commit to it. Do it. Whether it was on Twitter or it was in your face. Do it. And he’s such a coward, man. I can’t wait to put an end to this charlatan.”
This is only one salvo in a war of words between the two former teammates that has lasted years. It will come to a head at UFC 272 tomorrow night, but first Colby Covington wanted to get a word in. “Chaos” told Yahoo Sports that he wouldn’t want to be friends with “scumbags” like Jones and Masvidal anyway.
“I mean, there’s a common thing with those two guys. You’re talking about two scumbags, two criminals. So, you know, who’d want to get along with those guys. Those guys are dirtbags, man. They cheat on their wives. They beat their wives. They cheat on their taxes.
They don’t do anything by the law. So, you know, I’m a big believer of law and order. So, of course, I don’t agree with those guys. They’re scumbags.” Jon Jones faced charges for domestic violence in 2021, but no allegations have thus far been brought against Jorge Masvidal.
Colby and Jorge will have the chance to sort out their beef in the Octagon this Saturday night as the two headline UFC 272. Who do you believe? Is Colby Covington a thief, or is this the pot calling the kettle black? Let us know in the comments.
