Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal’s beef has spilled out of the Octagon and into the streets. After losing comprehensively to Colby over five rounds at UFC 272, Masvidal told the press that He’s still somebody that if I see him out in the streets, I’m going to give him everything I’ve got to break his f****** jaw. It doesn’t matter if I lost wrestling scrambles tonight, I still think he’s a f****** p****.”
Turns out he meant it. Reporter Andy Slater revealed on Twitter that ““Masvidal, wearing a surgical mask and hoodie, sucker punched Covington twice. Covington was hit in the mouth and eye. One of his teeth did break, cops say.”
BREAKING: Jorge Masvidal Attacks Colby Covington at Miami Steakhouse
Slater continued: “The initial call to police came from one of Colby Covington’s coaches. Cops were told that Covington was the victim in the altercation with Masvidal facing a felony arrest if Covington cooperates with police and their investigation proves the UFC star’s claims.”
No arrests have been made so far. However, Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal may face felony battery charges over the incident. TMZ Sports confirmed that Colby sustained a fractured tooth and an abrasion on his wrist from the incident, during which Masvidal allegedly yelled “You shouldn’t have been talking about my kids”.
The pair’s heated rivalry has lasted years, stemming from a breakdown in the former best friends’ relationship while they were both training at American Top Team. Since then, Colby and Jorge traded shots in the press and via social media almost non-stop.
UFC 272 was supposed to be the culmination of this rivalry, the main event headlined by Masvidal vs Covington. Over the course of the fight itself, apart from a well-placed right hand, Jorge was unable to find a way into the fight, instead finding himself on the receiving end of Covington’s relentless high-pressure wrestling. Colby won via unanimous decision after dominating five rounds.
In the aftermath of the steakhouse scuffle, Masvidal took to social media to potentially snitch on himself. “Call this the show your face challenge. What’s up, I’m from Dade county. You talk that s*** you’ve got to back it up. That’s how my city rolls,” he said in a video posted after the incident. In the morning, he Tweeted “Good morning to everyone except those that think talking about someone’s kids is cool”.
